Imperfect Action

It can be difficult to start something new, especially when we don’t have any experience or prior knowledge. We may not even like the way things are. We have to spend energy and time that we were not used to in that direction. It can be uncomfortable, awkward, scary not knowing the outcome or what to expect.

How do we start?

How do we take the right amount of action needed to take?

My wife and I have a running joke whenever we hear someone was applying for a new job. We joked how when someone was applying for a job, one of the first questions the interviewer ask is ‘do you have any history?’ If you say ‘none’ then all of the sudden the interviewer finds the interviewee not to be a fit candidate for the job for ‘lack of experience. It is the classic, which came first, the chicken or the egg.

When I first started taking care of my grandmother (without her truly knowing it), she was sure of herself that she did not need any help. Remember, I had zero experience when I first started taking care of her. I would ask her if there was anything I could do to help her. She would always say no, kindly.

How do you help someone who needs help, without offending them, without them feeling that they are a burden, and without taking away their rights?
